it sure doesn't seem like it around here! the weather around here has been a bit wacky!
usually around this time of year the temps should be in the mid to upper 60's with a random high in the 70's. however, today's high is forecasted to be around 85 and tomorrow i heard that it is going to be even warmer! our next chance of any real "fall" weather not coming until next Tuesday or Wednesday when the temps should be around the mid to upper 60's.
this is driving me nuts! i am in the mind set that summer is over and i want my cooler temps! don't get me wrong, we have had some cool nights, which is always nice, but i am ready for it to a consistent thing. i know that a lot of people think that i am nuts because i am not a huge fan of summer (i only really enjoy summer when i am in Michigan sitting on the beach, i am not one for the day-to-day life of temps above 85, especially when it is humid), but seriously, it is October and it should not be like this!
i just want to get into those days of cool temps, hovering around 57, all day and dropping to the 40's at night! then, in my mind, it will feel like fall and i will be much happier!
ok, enough on the weather....
as for this weekend, my sister and i are heading up to Michigan tomorrow so we can close up the house for the winter. we are actually making it a mini vacation, because who can pass that up that! we are heading out early tomorrow morning and are hoping to be at the cottage by 10:30 am, Michigan time. while there, we will do a quick clean up, luckily it had a major cleaning a week ago, and toss out all of the things that will not make through the winter. we then have to charge up the golf cart in order to put it in storage, so that way it will start up next spring. after that we are free, with our only other chore being to put the golf cart in storage on Sunday morning before we head out of there.
so what are the two of going to do with all of our free time? well...we are heading to Saugatuck, about 20 mile north of us, to go shopping! Saugatuck has great shops and is a really nice/cute/artsy town. it is always fun to go there, although this summer i never got to spend a day there doing the shopping thing. i was there couple of times, but that was after the dune rides and only for lunch. i know that there are at least 4 shops that i want to hit while there, one of them being the yarn shop! i actually am not sure if it is still there as i never checked it out over the summer, but i am keeping my fingers crossed!
in the knitting news....
i have been working on the pin wheel purse that is in Modular Knits, but i changed it a bit. the pattern says to make 5 sections for each side of the purse, but i wanted to make a felted version so it had to be bigger. what i ended up doing was making 7 sections for each, hopefully that will be large enough! i still have to complete side 2, but i will get back to it next week. i decided that i should finish the sleeve for the dual sweaters that i am working on. i only have about 2 more inches to knit on them, which isn't a lot,but i have 4 sleeves going at once, and the yarn keeps getting tangled up, so it is more time consuming then i had thought. so the purse is off to the side so i can get these done! i am hoping that my sister will drive to Michigan so i can knit in the car...keeping my fingers crossed!
and finally....
yesterday i got an email from Buffy that came from China. it was strange to see the Chinese lettering in the subject line at first, but i was glad to hear from her. she had said that they only have one computer available in their hotel for them to use, so getting a turn on them is hard and there are long waiting times as well. she said that she is having a good time, but is ready to come home. i can't wait to hear all about the trip and the games when she gets back.
also, yesterday Kieran and i watched the taped version of the Opening Ceremonies on ABC Family. it was nice to watch, but there was no commentary, so when they were performing, you had no idea what it meant. i was laughing because during the Olympic Ceremonies i usually can't stand those commentators because they never shut up, but i did miss them yesterday! i was also blown away by the ceremonies as a whole. they were huge, with fireworks, performers, stage shows etc. it is hard to believe that the first Special Olympics were held right here in Chicago at Soldier Field, in the late 60's or early 70's (i can't remember the exact year) and that the stands were only filled with a handful of spectators. needless to say, they have come a long way, and it is well deserved for such a great organization!
as for today, Kieran has school and i have to get ready for my one night escape to Michigan. hopefully i will get some knitting time in while in the car, but who knows? have a great weekend and i will check back with you all next week!
